About Me
Lente Verelst is a Belgian contemporary composer, focusing in opera, music theatre, film and interdisciplinary performance.
Her classical background and acoustic music are an important and fundamental part in her artistic vision and music, both for the stage and screen.
She studied classical contemporary composition at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp with Wim Henderickx and Luc van Hove.
After obtaining the bachelor diplomas music theory and composition, she was granted a place at the
Royal College of Music in London for a master in Composition for screen. Lente graduated from the Royal College of Music in 2018. During her time in London, she rediscovered her love for opera and wrote her first 15-minute-opera 'Bear and Friends'. It was performed at the RCM in collaboration with Tête à Tête.
Hull Urban Opera gave her the chance to experiment with the genre by commissioning the 15-minute-opera 'The Bar' for their 'Bumps in the Night'.
This marked the start of more wonderful cooperation with them. In 2021 Lente wrote an online opera 'Crocodile' and in April 2024 they will present her first full opera 'The End of the World Party'.
Lente was selected as one of the five finalists at the 7th International Film Music Competition linked to Film Festival Zurich.
Together with her partner Hans Vercauteren she composed IGLO, a music theatre for children, aged 0-5, commissioned by Musica, Impulscentre for Music.
In 2026 they wrote Somer&Winter, a chamber opera commissioned by Opera Ballet Flanders, accompanied by Spectra Ensemble Ghent.
